Coastal Kerala

We decided to do a quick, short road trip to the coastal part of Kerala. The first stop was Wayanad. We started at 7:00 am and continued on Mysore Expressway. We stopped at Maddur Tiffanys at 8:41 am and had our breakfast. 

After our breakfast, we started at 9:30am and continued on the expressway. While entering Mysore, we made a mistake and rather than goint towards Gundlupet, we ended up going towards Nagarhole national park. Since we reached there, we continued on that path. This was not such a bright idea. The road was really bad.

In any case, we continued driving and arrived at Taj Wayanad at around 3:00pm. This drive did not require any charging stop and Taj Wayanad has a charger so we could charge whenever we wanted. We stayed here for two nights.

28-July-2025

We checked out from Taj Wayanad around 10:15 am. The next stop was Varkala. We took the coastal route and the road from Wayanad to Varkala is not in great shape.

It was a short distance but very trecherous drive. We made only one stop. We stopped at Lubaca Cafe for our dinner when we realized that we will be late in reaching Varkala. This was a nice place and they served Italian fare. 

After finishing our dinner, we continued our drive and arrived in Varkala around 9:30 pm. We stayed at Gateway Varkala and this place has a very convinient destination charger so charging was not an issue at all.

29-July-2025

We walked to South Cliff, had our Lunch at one of the cafes and generally enjoyed the place. If you want to chill out with nothing much to, South Cliff on Varkala is the place to be. 

We stayed in Gateway Varkala for two nights and then proceeded towards Kovalam. 

30-July-2025

We checked out at 11:00am and drove towards Kovalam. This segment is a nice drive. Not very long. We arrived in Taj Kovalam at 12:30pm. 

31-July-2025

We visited Kerala Arts and Craft Village nearby. It is at a Walking distance from the Taj Kovalam. This is pretty good place. If you or anybody with you is interested in arts and craft, I would say this is a must visit place.

We visited Vizhinjam Light House walked on the beach and Aazhimala Shiva Temple.

02-August-2025

We checked out of the Taj started back towards Bengaluru. On our way we decided to take a detour to Kannyakumari and do a stopover at Madurai.

We arrived in Kannyakumar at 2:00 pm and went to Vivekananda Rock Memorial. We had Lunch at Sarvana Bhavan and then started on our return journey. As I mentioned above, we had decided to do a stopover in Madurai, we booked Hotel Gateway for our stopover.

We arrived in Hotel Gateway in Madurai at 8:45 pm and checked in. Hotel Gateway in Madurai also has EV chargers so that issue was taken care of.

03-August-2025

We got ready, had our breakfast and checked out from the hotel and left for Bengaluru at 11:35 am. We drove straight with just one small break for our dinner and arrive in Bengaluru 8:30 pm.
